Key responsibilities and tasks
Obtain informed consent from patient’s carers/guardians and assent from children 12 years or older to participate in the study, in accordance with good clinical practice.
Maintain good communication with research nurses and collaborating hospital staff at each site, to ensure participants’ wellbeing, compliance with study protocols and quality of clinical data.
Help to develop good relationships with study sites and OUCRU-Hanoi, and communicate effectively with OUCRU-Ho Chi Minh City.
Collect, co-ordinate and oversee the collection of clinical data and research samples from participants both as inpatients and outpatients. This will include performing various clinical examinations and procedures such as lumbar punctures.
Cooperate with the study monitoring team during and after their visits to answer their questions regarding data collection, and any queries related to clinical data collected.
Attend regular videoconference meetings with study coordinators/Clinical trials unit in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City, and the project manager.
Maintain good record keeping of CRF files and other study documents ensuring they are up to date
Work closely with other study staff (nurse or co-ordinator) to ensure appropriate study dispensing and scheduling of follow up appointments as per protocol.
Communicate with study participants and their parents /legal guardians about their illness and its management. Answer questions about the trial, and provide advice about seeking healthcare at study sites or non-study sites as appropriate.
It will be expected the candidate will make some visits to the National Lung Hospital to provide support, oversee and collect data on children who are transferred from the Vietnam National Children’s Hospital when required.
Address data queries raised by OUCRU-CTU or MRC-CTU
Identify all serious adverse events and report them to OUCRU CTU and relevant ethics committees as per reporting policy. This is to be done in close liaison with the OUCRU study-coordinator.
Perform computer randomization of study drugs
Ensure that clinical case report forms are completed accurately without missing data by conducting regular reviews of CRFs in collaboration with hospital staff.
Support ward staff with screening hospitalized children for suspected TB meningitis; including those transferred from referral hospitals to study sites.
Understand the study protocols, and work with hospital physicians to recruit and manage study patients
Assist with patient transfers, ensure continuity of care and of study procedures
Selection criteria
Essential:
2 years clinical experience in a Ha Noi government hospital
Ability to work closely with other study staff and hospital collaborators
Good attention to detail in following protocols and record keeping
Interest in clinical and/or epidemiological research
Excellent Vietnamese and good English language skills
Competence in basic medical procedures including lumbar puncture
Medical degree and current license to practise
Excellent interpersonal skills
Excellent skills in communication and patient care
Desired:
Prior experience in clinical research
Understanding of academia, research or not-for-profit working environment
Able to work with a minimum of supervision
Clinical and/or research experience in paediatrics, infectious diseases or neurology
Experience in use of Word processing ans spreadsheet software.
Masters degree or at least level 1 subspecialty training
