As HipVan&039;s Backend Engineer, you will design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable server- side applications supporting our social housing content platform. You will be responsible for creating efficient database schemas, optimizing API performance, and implementing systems that can handle high- volume media content and social interactions. This role requires expertise in database design, system architecture, and performance optimization. You will collaborate with frontend teams to deliver cohesive solutions while ensuring the high availability, reliability, and security of our backend systems.

API Development:
Assist in designing and building RESTful or GraphQL APIs under guidance. Learn to implement clean, maintainable endpoints that support frontend requirements.
System Architecture Basics:
Work with senior engineers to understand scalable and modular backend architectures. Contribute to improving code organization, reusability, and clarity.
Performance & Reliability:
Learn techniques for optimizing database queries, caching, and efficient data fetching. Support efforts to improve application speed and reliability.
Security & Best Practices:
Follow established authentication, authorization, and data protection standards. Gain familiarity with common security principles in web applications.
Collaboration & Learning:
Participate in code reviews, sprint meetings, and documentation. Proactively learn from mentors and contribute to team discussions and problem- solving.

Education & Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
Technical Skills:
Understanding of relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and basic query writing.
Interest in learning about cloud services (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization (Docker).
Basic experience with one or more backend languages (Ruby, Node.js, Python, Java, or Go).
Familiarity with version control (Git) and RESTful API concepts.
Mindset & Soft Skills:
Strong problem- solving and analytical thinking.
Eager to learn and grow in a fast- paced engineering environment.
Good communication skills and willingness to collaborate with cross- functional teams.
