Design Engineer II is responsible for creating new engineering designs and modifying existing products following established procedures. This role involves understanding design requirements, developing reference designs, and executing design implementations. Design Engineer II should have a solid grasp of the design process, be able to create and execute validation test plans, and be proficient in at least one CAD tool relevant to their discipline.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Collaborate with the manager and/or project manager to provide information supporting the initial quotation process.
(Software) Demonstrated strong programming and debugging skills.
(Electrical & Mechanical) Create, gather, and enter complete design package data into the PDM system for ECO release at the appropriate project phase gates.
Stay up to date with the latest technologies and techniques to deliver competitive and cost- effective designs.
Supervise and guide Design Engineer I and Technicians on assigned projects.
(Software) Proficient in at least one and familiar with multiple high- level programming languages and compilers; experienced with in- circuit emulators.
Provide technical support for all manufacturing builds, including engineering prototypes, NPI, and production releases.
Design Engineer (Electrical)
Develop subsystem architectures under the guidance of a Senior Engineer (Engineer III or above).
Independently perform and analyze circuit designs from start to finish.
Be familiar with common manufacturing processes related to electrical design and guide PCB layout accordingly.
Design Engineer (Software)
Demonstrate strong proficiency in at least one programming language.
Write, test, and debug code with minimal supervision.
Independently design, develop, document, debug, and test software and/or firmware on hardware platforms.
Design Engineer (Mechanical)
Be knowledgeable about manufacturing and tooling processes, ensuring effective design for manufacturability.
Perform relevant manual analyses to solve technical problems.
Independently design mechanical parts and subsystems from concept to completion.
Design Engineer (DFX)
Evaluate and analyze designs from PCB to HLA levels (DFF, DFM, DFA).
Be proficient in at least one design assessment tool and knowledgeable about relevant manufacturing processes and equipment.
Understand requirements, identify optimization options, and assess impacts on design cost, assembly methods, and implementation risks.
Component Engineer
Possess strong knowledge of electrical part commodities and alignment with corporate sourcing strategies.
Understand design requirements to identify optimization options and assess impacts on cost and implementation risk.
Evaluate electrical and electro- mechanical components and BOMs for supply chain risk, cost, and suitability for design.
