Senior Database Administrator / Data Engineeer

Database Administration

Perform performance tuning, query optimization, and index management.
Develop and automate backup, recovery, and retention strategies.
Implement robust security controls, user access management, and auditing.
Design and manage database clustering.
Manage and maintain MS SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments for scalability, and performance.

Monitoring & Automation

Automate database deployment and configuration via IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible, or similar).
Implement database observability: query performance metrics, connection pool monitoring, and alerting systems.
Participate in on- call rotations for critical production systems.

Data Architecture & Integration

Define ETL/ELT pipelines to collect and transform data from multiple environments into unified formats.
Design and implement data schemas that consolidate data from diverse sources (operational, analytical, and third- party systems).
Collaborate with engineering and analytics teams to define data governance, naming conventions, and metadata management.

Data Lake / Data Warehouse Development

Develop Airflow DAGs to pull data from distributed systems into Amazon S3 storage.
Support the analytics and AI/ML teams in ensuring data quality, traceability, and pipeline reliability.
Integrate Airflow or AWS Glue workflows to automate ingestion, transformation, and catalog updates.
Architect and maintain a data lake / warehouse leveraging Apache Iceberg for structured and versioned datasets.

Required Technical Skills

10+ years of experience as a Database Administrator or Data Engineer.
Expert- level proficiency
with:
Microsoft SQL Server (administration, T- SQL, replication, performance tuning)
PostgreSQL (configuration, schema design, partitioning, replication, failover)
Experience with ETL tools and scripting languages (Python preferred).
Proven experience designing database schemas for multi- source data consolidation.
Strong knowledge of database security best practices and encryption at rest/in transit.
Hands- on with Apache Airflow or AWS Glue for data pipeline orchestration.
Strong background in backup/restore automation, replication, and clustering.
Familiarity with Apache Iceberg, S3- based data lakes, and AWS ecosystem (S3, IAM, Glue Catalog, RDS).

Preferred Skills

Exposure to CI/CD pipelines for database deployments.
Knowledge of SQL Server to PostgreSQL migration or cross- platform schema management.

Soft Skills

Strong analytical and problem- solving mindset with attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills with both technical and non- technical stakeholders.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively across engineering, data science, and operations teams.
Proven ability to document processes and maintain clear, version- controlled infrastructure definitions.

Education

Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator, AWS Certified Database Specialty, PostgreSQL Professional Certification) are a plus.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
