JOB BACKGROUND
We are expanding our work in critical illness with a focus on using new technology to improve the care of critically ill patients throughout the region. The overall aim of this project is to provide proof-of-principle that new devices and analytical techniques can improve the clinical care of critically ill patients in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This is a large collaborative project between OUCRU, HTD and foreign collaborators (University of Oxford, Imperial College London, Kings College London, ETH Zurich, Melbourne University).
The post holders will support implementation of this work.
JOB SUMMARY
To support: study planning, implementation and coordination of work aimed at developing and testing a system to improve decision-making in intensive care.
The overall aim of this project is to provide proof-of-principle that new devices and analytical techniques can improve the clinical care of critically ill patients in an intensive care unit. Initially however, we will aim to understand the environment into which these new innovations will be introduced. The post holders will support the planning and implementation of this work, while also representing these aspects of the project within the team, Intensive Care, and the hospital.
One post will focus on analysis of the information systems landscape in Vietnam relating to ICU care from ward-based electrical medical record and digital monitoring systems to national level data aggregation systems such as DHIS. The post-holder will support innovation teams with Human-Centred Design research including co-design workshops and developing usability testing and system implementation research plans.
The second post will centre upon mapping the key processes around vital signs monitoring, reporting and the decision-making processes which use vital signs data. We will apply standard process mapping tools for this stage. We will then conduct an analysis of the social and cultural aspects of their use, focusing particularly on the medical notes. We will use work from Implementation Science to guide this stage, and in particular, Normalisation Process Theory and the NASS framework (Nonadoption, Abandonment, and Challenges to Scale-Up, Spread, and Sustainability).
The post-holders will receive training and direction but will be expected to be self-directed in much of this work and be an active contributor to the team.
