Bigcommerce Front-End/Theme Lead

As the BigCommerce Front- end/Theme Development Lead, you will take ownership of front- end architecture and theme development strategy within the BigCommerce ecosystem. You will not only develop custom themes yourself, but also mentor other developers, enforce coding standards, and lead the adoption of best practices. The ideal candidate can extract and integrate data directly into themes via APIs — without depending on back- end developers — and can scale their expertise across the team.

With our growing demand for BigCommerce projects, we are looking for a BigCommerce Front- end/Theme Development Lead to guide our team in building scalable, high- quality themes that deliver outstanding shopping experiences.

Lead the end- to- end development of custom BigCommerce themes using the Stencil framework.
Act as the go- to expert for all BigCommerce theme- related challenges and solutions within the team.
Mentor and guide junior/mid- level developers, conducting code reviews and providing feedback.
Integrate data and features directly into themes using BigCommerce APIs, GraphQL, and Handlebars.js.
Stay up to date with BigCommerce platform updates, Stencil enhancements, ADA compliance, and Core Web Vitals.
Proactively identify opportunities to improve workflows, tooling, and coding standards.
Collaborate with project managers, designers, and clients to scope requirements and ensure technical feasibility.
Define, document, and enforce front- end development best practices for BigCommerce projects.
Drive performance optimization efforts, ensuring all themes are fast, scalable, and SEO- friendly.

Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast- paced, agile environment.
Solid understanding of performance optimization, SEO, accessibility (ADA), and security best practices.
5+ years of front- end development experience, with at least 3 years in BigCommerce theme development.
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem- solving skills.
Strong expertise in BigCommerce APIs (REST & GraphQL) and data integration.
Proven experience leading projects or mentoring developers in a team environment.
Familiarity with Git and modern development workflows.
Mastery of Stencil framework, Handlebars.js, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3/SASS, and jQuery.
