POSITION SUMMARY
He is also responsible for planning, monitoring of the coal handling system, supervising the O&M contractor for coal handling system and assisting in the development of training and procedures utilized by the Chemical/Fuel Department personnel for the reliable, efficient, safe, and environmentally compliant operation of the plant. He supports to coordinate activities with other plant departments.
The Chemical/Fuel Engineer is responsible for supporting the Chemical/Fuel Leader with overall safe, reliable and efficient management of the power plant water chemistry and related issues in accordance with industry standards, environmental restrictions, original equipment manufacturers recommendations, and standard operating procedures as directed by the Chemical/Fuel Leader.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties and responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following:
• Assist the Chemical/Fuel Leader to manage the O&M contractor of Coal Handling System and to supervise the operation of Coal Handling system and equipment during unloading, reclaiming, sampling, and blending operations.
• Support Chemical/Fuel Leader to communicate with the Maintenance Department by means of a work request to ensure that equipment malfunctions affecting water quality, receive prompt maintenance.
• Monitor the performance of all plant water systems as required to ensure that facility equipment life, operational efficiency and environmental compliance is maintained. This includes demineralizers, electro- chlorinating and wastewater treatment plants boiler, turbines and related auxiliaries.
• Monitor supercritical boiler water and steam chemistry to assure consistent water quality and takes an action to ensure that maximum permissible limits are not exceeded.
• Conduct water / fuel sampling and tests.
• Support the the Chemical/Fuel Leader to develop and to organize strategies on environmental considerations including but not limited to: spontaneous combustion, coal yard utilization, plant operating guidelines, coal movement, coal spacing, compacting of coal, unloading and reclaiming operation considering weather conditions.
• Establish and maintains chemical/fuel systems operations data recordkeeping, including operating logs, trend logs, chemistry logs, and reports pertaining to environmental regulations and operations.
• Interpret laboratory test results and advise on impact of test results to the plant operation.
• Support the Chemical/Fue Leader to identify opportunities to make process improvements that could increase production or reduce operating costs while maintaining the highest standards.
• Assists the Chemical/Fuel Leader to prepare one- year, three- year, and five- year Operational plans and budgets, integrating operational activities with the Maintenance Plan. And perform other duties as assigned by Chemical/Fuel Leader.
• Monitor fuel chemistry to ensure it is within boiler design specifications. Promptly advises the Chemical/Fuel Leader of any deviation from specification which could adversely impact operation of the boilers.
