Activities
Sea trials
- At the sea trials location, he supervises and coordinates activities of the crew on deck when connecting towlines for bollard pull or for winch testing, as directed by the Master
- In absence of a foreign Captain, he can also do mooring/berthing and anchoring of the vessels himself
- Is responsible for the safe piloting and navigation of the vessel from Yard to sea trials location, in compliance with the applicable laws and regulations of the local port authorities of Hai Phong
- Chief mate is assigned person to keep communication with the Captain of support trial vessel (Song Cam 5) to make sure a safe trial area & other activities.
- Participating at sea trials as chief officer/mate on board, supporting a foreign Trials Captain, but also during delivery trips of the vessels to a transport ship
- Has GMDSS responsibilities such as contacting port authorities for safe passage and guidance while sailing on the river
- Operation of deck equipment when needed
- He is overall in charge of safety on deck for the crew members
Harbor activities
- Checks if the right tools and equipment is present on board as required for deck handling of towing ropes during trials
- Support commissioning engineer during fuel bunkering in the jetty
- Taking part in ship handling and movements of vessels from one location to another, ensuring proper mooring to the berths
- Training & practicing the emergency drills regularly for trial crews.
- Inspection and maintenance of sea trial equipment before & after each trial, such as load cells, Noise & Vib. measurement instruments, sea trial tool boxes, trial ropes, life rafts, …
- Ensures the vessels are ready to leave for sea trials, takes measures for proper fastening of the deck machinery and loads
- Maintenance of lay- up vessels by manoeuvring the vessel in the DSCS water area.
- Instructing the crew members participating at trials, basics such as: deck handling operations, fire- fighting, lifeboat launching, and/or other training as applicable
