[CIS] Elementary Vietnamese Guidance Counselor

The Elementary Vietnamese Guidance Counselor plays a vital role in ensuring the academic, social, and emotional well- being of our Vietnamese- speaking students at the elementary level. This position combines professional counseling skills with deep cultural understanding to provide linguistically accessible and culturally relevant support to students, families, and staff. The ideal candidate will be passionate about empowering students to reach their full potential and fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.
Responsibilities
Individual and Group Counseling:
● Conduct individual and group counseling sessions with Vietnamese- speaking students in their native language to address academic, social, and emotional concerns.
● Collaborate with teachers and other school personnel to develop and implement interventions that meet the specific needs of Vietnamese students.
● Utilize individual and group counseling techniques to support students in managing stress, anxiety, bullying, peer relationships, and family challenges.
Academic Support:
● Collaborate with teachers to identify and address academic challenges faced by Vietnamese students.
● Work with Vietnamese- speaking students to develop effective study skills and strategies for academic success.
● Advocate for and promote equitable access to academic resources for all students.
Cultural Connection and Advocacy:
● Serve as a resource for teachers and staff on the cultural backgrounds and experiences of Vietnamese students.
● Develop and implement programs and initiatives that celebrate Vietnamese culture and promote cultural understanding within the school community.
● Partner with Vietnamese families and community organizations to ensure seamless support for students and families.
Collaboration and Communication:
● Attend and actively participate in relevant professional development opportunities to stay informed about best practices in school counseling and culturally responsive support.
● Maintain regular communication with Vietnamese families and keep them informed about their child&039;s progress and needs.
● Collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, and other school personnel to create a comprehensive support system for Vietnamese students.

● Master&039;s degree or Degree in School Counseling or a related field, with a focus on elementary education or multicultural counseling.
● Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
● Experience working with elementary school students in a school setting.
● Strong individual and group counseling skills, along with experience in crisis intervention and conflict resolution.
● Adaptability, flexibility, and a commitment to continuous learning.
● Culturally competent and demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
● Valid state school counseling license or eligibility for licensure in our state.
● Fluency in Vietnamese (written and spoken), with a deep understanding of Vietnamese culture and traditions.

● Cross- cultural communication skills: Building rapport and understanding across cultural differences.
Assessment and Evaluation:
● Data analysis and evaluation: Utilizing data to assess student needs and program effectiveness.
● Individualized planning and goal setting: Collaborating with students and families to set achievable goals.
● Culturally responsive assessment: Considering cultural factors when evaluating student behavior and performance.
