Director of Technical (Local & Expat) - Rubber - HCMC (Fluent in English & Chinese)

Product development
• Communicate with suppliers on development of new products
• Communicate with senior management, footwear brands and technical experts to understand product features, cost, availability, and application to brand products
• On- board new rubber compounding facilities within the region as needed
• Support the sales team by producing product samples for brand trials and validation
• Anticipate needs for new compounds and start development for future product seasons including compounds with high recycled content, oil resistance, improved durability, and other brand expectations.
• Support the sales team by understanding required product performance and executing on developing the required compound
Technical services
• Work with rubber compounds and outsole factories to produce development samples for use by consumer brands
• Manage wear testing of rubber compound by preparing product samples for testing
• Create a catalog/database of product compounds including physical samples as well as related formulas and process controls to produce the compound/product
• Manage RSL testing to ensure materials pass brand standards (AFIRM standards)
• Lead a regional team to ‘on- board’ new outsole suppliers using product and provide support services
• Manage testing of rubber compound physical properties
• Work with team to understand required customs and duties associated with the import/export of the product
• Work with factory partners to produce bill of materials and associated costing breakdown.

- Extremely organized with experience in creating development systems
- Experience with rubber compounding, outsole compounding, production, and physical testing of rubber
- Bachelor of Science in Chemical engineering, material science, or other technical degree
- Excellent communication skills when working with factory and brand partners
- Demonstrated expertise in managing a product development project from conception to commercialization
- Written and verbal fluency in English and Mandarin
- 10+ year’s experience working in the footwear industry, rubber compounding industry, or other similar field
- Travel expectations: 40- 50% (Vietnam, Singapore, Cambodia, China, Bangladesh)
- Passion for sustainable product development
