Mechanical Design Engineer (Industrial Automation)

Work with your teammates to meet the project requirements within the project timeline
Investigate and resolve technical problems involving machine or system performance in production
Create mechanical design drawings for custom production fixtures, machines, mechanisms, and robotic end of arm tooling, considering manufacturability, assembly issues, maintenance and user experience
Work with vendors to develop Machine Vision Technology suitable for our use- case (part orienting, quality inspection and sorting, diverse product line, many entry points)
Select materials and manufacturing processes, considering cost, durability, and performance.
Create automated system process design drawings, production line planning and layout drawings
Generate and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including technical specifications and assembly instructions.
Design and build new automated manufacturing systems from the ground up with a wide variety of robotics and electromechanical components, including 6- axis articulated robots, cartesian robots, pneumatics, sensors, servo systems, drive components, etc.
Follow project through the fabrication phase, ensuring machine/fixture/tooling parts are made to specification. De- bug and adjust design iteratively to optimise function
Research and develop a new and innovative approach to design for automation (DfA) suitable for short product development times, high production line turnover, and a wide range of consumer products
Monitor and learn from real- world performance of automated production line over time. Analyse for robustness, consistency, wear- and- tear, cost- effectiveness etc.
Draft and supply manufacturing drawings to in- house machine shop (manual and CNC) for fabrication.

At least 3 years of relevant work experience
Able to understand preliminary sketch and rough design instructions as outlined by your Design Lead and propose multiple drafts to satisfy design requirements
Excellent verbal, visual, and written communication skills
Basic proficiency in 3D solid modelling software (such as Solidworks, NX, Inventor), previous experience in a professional context preferred
Must be absolutely proficient in AutoCAD 2D
Education and Experience
Read and understand (listening) English fluently in a professional context
Desire to work in a fast- paced environment
Able to present your ideas clearly and understand the design intent of other designers and engineers in your team
Able to design common industrial automation devices such as vibratory bowl feeders, linear feeders, orientating conveyers, robot end effector tools etc.
Technical Skills
Any Chinese language skills are highly sought after, but not required; candidates without English fluency who can communicate in Chinese should apply
Other Attributes
Experience in designing and building industrial part feeding systems, including part handling, manipulation, and orientation
Familiar with prototyping and custom fabrication methods, such as CNC, mill, lathe, 3D printing, laser cutting etc.
Good at time management
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
