JOB SUMMARY
The candidate will be expected to participate in Global Health Bioethics Network (GHBN) meetings, Good Clinical Trials Collaborative meetings, participate in an annual bioethics summer school, and present at relevant conferences held online and in person in different locations.
The Postdoctoral Researcher will lead a small team to implement the research activities under the guidance and mentorship of the Heads of Social Science and Implementation Research (SSIR) and Clinical Trials Unit (CTU). They will also work with members of the Public and Community Engagement group as required.
In addition, the post holder will support social science researchers within the unit and contribute to training and skills development workshops. It is expected that the post holder will conceive new initiatives and projects to expand social science and bioethics research within the unit – particularly in areas that are associated with OUCRU biomedical research interests.
The Postdoctoral Researcher will assist with developing and conducting social science research within and alongside ongoing clinical trials, commonly known as studies within a trial (SWAT). Within these studies, we will use a variety of social science methods including participant observation, in- depth interviews, group discussion, and surveys to explore alternative methods to deliver a clinical trial and evaluation of current trial practices. We will explore the full course of a clinical trial, from study design to recruitment of participants to reporting outcomes upon clinical trial completion. There will be a focus on trial ethics and good trial practice, in addition to other topics of interest to the post- holder. We will use the results of the SWAT to inform current trials and future trial design. Results will be published in academic journals and presented at local and international conferences.

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
In addition to meeting the essential qualifications stated below, the ideal candidate for this position will be an experienced social science or bioethics researcher.
This work involves the following responsibilities:
· Review literature to provide context for the research, and write up the results in for publication;
· Help with training activities as needed;
· Design and implement social science research linked to clinical trials;
· Travel locally, nationally, and internationally to conduct research and attend meetings;
· Supervise 1- 2 research assistants;
· Develop and apply for external funding;
· Other tasks as required by the Head of SSIR.
