DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under general supervision, the Project Engineer is responsible for the following major tasks:
Deliver customer design requests to product designers; collaborate during the design stage to ensure compliance with standards and continuous improvement through Kaizen.
Attend customer build events as requested.
Support program integration into SPI Manufacturing, covering part design, tool design and functionality, production planning, gage and secondary tooling, and packaging.
Provide support and attend whiteboard meetings.
Collaborate with PDT members to ensure complete part submissions meet customer deadlines.
Create tool layouts and request suppliers to design molds accordingly. Attend mold design reviews with TE and propose design changes to ensure productivity.
Responsible for prototype mold builds and ensuring timely availability of prototype parts.
Lead technical reviews, product quality discussions, and GD&T development with customers. Offer cost- saving ideas for customer VA/VE evaluations.
Participate in mold trials at the supplier’s factory. Confirm mold structure and process settings to ensure the product meets dimensional and appearance requirements.
Ensure all supplied materials, parts, and products meet customer requirements and are delivered on time, from prototype to production PPAP.
Maintain documentation of all program activities. Ensure evidence of work is stored in SharePoint. Provide updated data and drawings to tooling sources and document control; verify drawings for specification compliance.
Manage DV/EV testing in accordance with DVP&R: submit test requests to the lab, coordinate part testing, and implement product improvements.
Complete Engineering Change Requests (ECR) for all tooling or pricing- impacting changes, ensuring alignment with the program budget.
Establish and maintain good working relationships with internal teams and external customers (including sales, design, engineering, and launch teams).
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Familiarity with plastic part decoration techniques
Understanding of plastic part assembly methods
Must score 20 or above on the Wonderlic test
Must achieve at least 80% on the Machine Reasoning Test
Knowledge of injection molding operations
Effective English communication skills
Bachelor’s degree in a related area of responsibility preferred
Engineering degree or certificate in a relevant technical field
Strong decision- making abilities
