Essential Duties and Responsibilities – (Key Activities of the role)
• Assist in the coordination with the local investigator in crimes & accident handling and investigating
• Responsible for the safety and security of guests, employees and establishment needs
• Maintain inter- departmental relationships to ensure seamless customer service
• Be familiar with location of fire alarms and fire fighting equipment
• Ensure staff is properly trained on systems, security procedures, and service and quality standards.
• Manage all security daily operation to report all daily security operation to Chief of Security.
• Ensure hotel alarm system is in good working order
• Maintain all procedures and adhere to them within the Accor guidelines
• Report to Chief of Security all hotel property deficiencies and safety or security hazards
• Initiate action to improve a hazardous situation immediately
• Maintain a vigil on the closed circuit TV system and inform security officer on patrol duties of any unusual happenings
• Ensure firearms and other weapons are not carried by staff when on duty.
• Conduct random checks of key registers in telephone room, banqueting, engineering, stewarding and housekeeping to ensure the hotel’s key control policy is adhered to and report on discrepancies
• Have a comprehensive understanding of the hotel’s crisis & risk management procedures, assisting the Chief of Security in the development and amendment of the plans and procedures, ensuring implementation and compliance to relevant policies and procedures.
• Maintain the security system
• Supervise emergency drills.
• Manage day- to- day staffing requirements, plan and assign work, and establish performance and development goals for team members. Provide mentoring, coaching and regular feedback to help manage conflict and improve team member performance.
• Develop team’s capabilities for their current and future roles
• Involve your team in regular, quality feedback discussions.
• In the event of fire, be thoroughly familiar with and guided by the hotel’s emergency plan
• Assist Chief of Security & Security Supervisor in the preparation of security plan for specific events (seminar, conference, government guest, wedding, etc.)
• Allocate staff locker keys as necessary
• Implement procedures for security and emergency incidents
• Key control ensuring the distribution and collection of keys are in accordance with Accor’s brand safety standards.
• Maintain a 24 hour surveillance of those areas that are frequented by guests and all work areas
• Ensure checks are conducted on fire panel, fire hose real outlets and fire barriers and all other safety equipment and ensure that all are in good working order and report to the Manager any item of equipment which is faulty
• Train team members on CCTV room procedures and serve as a central communications point during emergency/crisis situations; develop and maintain relationships with local fire, police, and emergency personnel.
• Monitor and maintain all product and performance standards and ensure action is taken when standards are not met
• Monitor staff clocking on and off duty
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Manage all Security personnel ensuring all patrolling, inspection and escort duties are performed to a high standard
• Maintain a good working knowledge of the following:
The hotel switchboard and paying system
The hotel’s fire indicator board, fire wardens telephones and public address system
The control points and the working of the hotel’s gas and air conditioning system
• Conduct regular locker checks in line with Human Resources
• Coordinate functions with other security staff or Police and other government Securities and promote good will with them
• Ensure all outlets, fridges, cupboards etc are fully secured when not in use or unattended
• Implement the hotel policies and procedures and advise Superiors and Human Resources of action taken
• Maintain a daily log of incidents
• Make way by escorting VIPs and dignitaries when directed and direct traffic away from Lobby and other busy thorough fares
• Carry out monthly fire inspections
• Check all packages and passes of employees entering and leaving the building
• Supervise out scoured Security Guards ensuring adherence to hotel policy
• Be thoroughly familiar of the property layout, design, entry and exit points
• Provide escort duty for money transfers to the General Cashier’s office or bank as required
• Prevent gambling on hotel premises
• Prevent Sabotage of hotel premises
• Be alert for any unusual packages, guests or vehicles and advise superior of same
• Ensure that the safety control office is never left unattended
• Maintain a good knowledge of the liquor act and criminal code
• Be correct, secure and courteous in handling any disciplinary or criminal case
• Ensure there is no obstruction to the loading dock and that unauthorized vehicles are removed
• Ensure no undesirables loiter in or around the hotel premises
