The post- holder will assist the Head Librarian and be responsible for:
Technical services:
• Planning events and displays for the library to align with school activities as required.
• Making bibliographies and indexes of the books that are lent out and those present in the library.
• Operating automated library and manual systems as appropriate and developing the use of the automated system.
• Assisting as necessary with the cataloguing and processing of new book stock. Contributing to the maintenance of the current library catalogue, the cataloguing of new materials, and special collections not yet in the catalogue.
• Collecting and developing open education resources for the school.
Reference Services
• Provide guidance and support to library users or identified student groups with regard to enquiries related to study skills including research, assignment layout, editing, and proofreading.
• Navigating students and staff to access the right information from the correct sources to help readers in finding what they need.
• Undertaking research on specific topics as requested by the Librarian to provide relevant information.
• Inducting and assisting students and staff using printed or electronic resources in the library.
Teaching Support
• Support the Head Librarian in preparing resources for all lessons relating to reading aloud, library skills, information literacy, digital literacy & research skills.
• Support teachers in hosting school events in the library or relate to reading promotion.
• Supporting, and at times leading, library clubs for both secondary and primary.
Administration Services
• Any other responsibilities of a similar nature as required by the Head Librarian and/or Headteachers.
• Assisting the Head Librarian in administering the library budget, including Library facilities upgrading, purchasing books, electronic resources, periodicals, and supplies, passing invoices for payment and monitoring expenditures against the budget.
• Supporting communication between the Head Librarian and students, teachers, staff and parents.
• Participating in staff training and development in order to keep abreast of new developments.
• Assisting the Librarian in researching and ordering new resources for whole school, including book stock, periodicals and electronic resources, and liaising with suppliers as necessary.
Support Library Teaching Assistants (TAs)
• Overseeing students and staff studying in the Library and using the school equipment and books on a daily basis.
• Monitoring and developing library services at all sites.
• Assisting with all library housekeeping routines: issue and return of books, reservations, overdue books, shelving, tidying and weeding books.
• Communicate with other departments relating to support services to ensure library services are efficient and effective.
Standards and quality assurance
• Attend team and staff meetings.
• Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety
• Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality, and attendance.
• Support the aims and ethos of the school.
