Job Purpose
The Head of Legal is responsible for overseeing the legal department, providing strategic legal guidance, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. This role involves managing legal risks, advising on regulatory changes, and supporting the bank&039;s business objectives while safeguarding its interests.
Principal Accountabilities
Develop and implement Legal Strategy and Compliance
• Anticipate potential legal risks and devise mitigating strategies to protect the bank’s interests in line with group- wide legal policies.
• Collaborate with senior management and the Legal team in Head Quarter to ensure the legal strategy proactively addresses key business needs.
Risk Management & Regulatory Requirement
• Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks associated with the bank&039;s operations, products, and services.
• Oversee the bank&039;s regulatory compliance framework and manage relationships with relevant authorities.
• Provide legal updates to staff to ensure awareness of evolving regulations.
• Serve as the primary point of contact with regulatory authorities. Monitor regulatory changes and advise the bank on necessary adjustments to policies and practices.
Advisory Role
• Perform legal research and provide advice on complex legal issues.
• Identify and assess potential legal risks in collaboration with Compliance, Risk Management, and business units.
• Provide legal advice to senior management and various business units on matters such as contract negotiations, mergers and acquisitions, lending practices, and employment law.
Contract Management
• Oversee the drafting, review, and negotiation of a wide range of contracts, ensuring legal compliance
• Identify potential legal risks within contracts and provide risk mitigation advice
Manage Litigation and Dispute Resolution
• Provide necessary documents and follow up on litigation proceedings to ensure favorable outcomes
• Oversee all litigation, dispute resolution, and legal proceedings involving the bank.
• Engage and supervise external legal counsel for dispute resolution matters.
Legal Operations and Human Resources Issues
• Participate in internal investigations remediation team and provide legal and compliance perspectives, as appropriate
• Advise on sensitive HR/Labor law- related issues
• Collaborating and instructing external counsel where needed and to provide inputs and oversight of the work done by external counsels
