Position Summary: The General Accountant plays a crucial role in the finance department, overseeing the accurate and timely execution of accounting tasks, including general ledger management, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. This position requires an individual with a strong background in accounting, excellent analytical skills, and a thorough understanding of financial regulations. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in financial reporting, budget analysis, and tax compliance within a fast- paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the Chief Accountant in the preparation of any and all reporting and analysis requirements regardless of reporting frequency including daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual and ad- hoc. This includes postings of vouchers.
Be entirely flexible and adapt to rotate within the different sub departments of the Accounting & Finance Department.
Assist in the preparation of all groundwork required for all statutory audit and tax/fee requirements.
Preparation of Monthly assigned Journals and allocation of shared expenses among departments.
Mentor and provide guidance to junior accounting staff, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the team.
Assist in conducting surprise stock- count inspection in addition to/ during the month- end stock- count
Provide assistance during the audit (internal and external) review process.
Assist in compilation of departmental budget and forecast.
Month end reconciliation of Balance Sheet Accounts.
Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment to enhance team productivity and professional growth.
Ensure information presented in all reports is accurate and reflective of actual business transactions.
Conduct variance analysis and financial statement reviews to identify discrepancies or areas for improvement.
Administer all tax filing and government reporting procedures to ensure accurate, timely information is provided in compliance with laws and regulations.
Supervise and mentor accounting staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
Assist in conducting surprise spot- checks on General Cashier’s float on a periodic basis.
Assist in carrying out quarterly, bi- yearly, yearly inventory of operating equipment.
Carry out any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Chief Accountant and management.
Prepare Bank reconciliation of online statements (daily & monthly).
Ensure all reports are prepared on a timely basis meeting all deadlines and all files and reports are properly filed for future reference.
Manage the budgeting process, working closely with various departments to compile and analyze financial data for budget preparation and review.
