Job Description
The Software Operations Manager will oversee and lead the operational strategy and execution across the entire software departments, reporting directly to the Software Director. This pivotal role is instrumental in ensuring consistency, scalability, and excellence in how software is built, focusing on optimizing processes, standardizing practices, and enhancing overall organizational efficiency. The ideal candidate will champion operational integrity, promote seamless collaboration and alignment with global software stakeholders, and maintain a strong focus on mentoring and enabling team managers to achieve collective success and deliver high- quality software effectively.
Roles, Responsibilities & Typical Activities
Leadership and Team Management:
Develop and manage a pipeline of future leaders by identifying high- potential talent, partnering with the business to design formal and informal learning pathways and immersive experiences, and implementing robust succession plans to mitigate key personnel risks.
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Software Team Managers, ensuring their effectiveness and professional growth.
Foster a high- performance culture within the management layer, promoting collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
Drive talent management initiatives, including standardizing hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development processes for managers and their teams.
Oversee cross- functional team engagement and ensure seamless communication channels across the software organization.
Strategic Alignment & Operational Excellence:
Lead initiatives for working and knowledge sharing, domain knowledge development plans, and best practices for daily operations.
Standardize software development tools, platforms, and best practices across all teams to ensure consistency and efficiency in workflows.
Collaborate closely with the Software Director to translate strategic goals into actionable operational plans and metrics.
Define, evangelize, and drive the implementation of strategic operational initiatives, such as new CI/CD standards, refined Agile processes, and advanced quality gates.
Global Stakeholder Management & Alignment:
Engage in high- level stakeholder management, including global product, engineering, and support leadership, to ensure operational alignment and satisfaction.
Act as a key liaison to communicate operational strategies, performance metrics, and process changes to global stakeholders, ensuring transparency and buy- in.
Identify and address operational gaps or inconsistencies that impact global team collaboration and delivery.
Resource Planning & Capacity Management:
Collaborate with HR and Finance on talent acquisition and operational budgeting that supports organizational scalability.
Conduct high- level resource planning and capacity management across all software teams, working with managers to optimize allocation and forecast future needs.
Develop strategies to address resource bottlenecks and ensure the right talent is in the right place to meet organizational objectives.
Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement:
Oversee the refinement of quality gates and operational standards within the SDLC to ensure high- quality software delivery at scale.
Drive a culture of continuous improvement through regular process audits, feedback loops, and the implementation of best practices gleaned from industry trends.
Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for operational excellence, including overall organizational velocity, deployment frequency, and process adherence.
Organizational Health & Performance Reporting:
Monitor business performance to ensure operations is effective and efficient
Analyze operational data to identify trends, opportunities for optimization, and potential risks, presenting data- driven recommendations.
Manage and monitor operational budgets related to tools, training, and infrastructure, ensuring cost- effectiveness and efficiency.
Develop and implement comprehensive reporting mechanisms for organizational health metrics, providing regular insights to the Software Director.
Leadership Responsibilities:
This job directly supervises and is responsible for the performance, development, and effectiveness of multiple Software Team Managers and potentially some senior individual contributors within the Vietnam software organization.
